AI Workshop: Headless Apps with SAP ABAP
Most AI projects fail. The figure of 95% is being tossed around. The reasons are often similar: expectations set too high, a lack of experience, missing application scenarios, or a missing methodology. This is exactly where our new AI workshop comes in. At the 11th Magdeburg Developer Days 2026, we tested our new AI workshop centered on so-called headless apps with SAP ABAP for the first time. The feedback was so positive that we are now bringing the format to Mannheim as an open training course.
We want to explain AI in an understandable way, make it tangible in practice, and work out together with you how modern AI workflows can be used meaningfully in the SAP environment.
The workshop is delivered by Jörg Müller, who has already successfully tested the format at the Magdeburg Developer Days 2026.

What can you expect?
The focus is not on glossy presentations or marketing demos, but on practical applications and real user scenarios. Together we address the question of how companies can arrive at meaningful and tangible prototypes more quickly with AI.
Among other things, we will look at:
- modern AI concepts and methods
- so-called headless apps with SAP ABAP
- the MCP protocol
- AI requirements from the user's perspective
- rapid AI prototypes in the SAP ABAP environment
What are so-called headless apps with SAP ABAP?
By so-called headless apps we mean applications that are operated exclusively via AI chatbots. Especially in the SAP environment, the question increasingly arises as to what role classic user interfaces will still play in the future and how modern AI workflows can change business processes. These are exactly the questions we want to discuss and try out in practice together with you.
Who is the workshop suitable for?
The workshop is aimed at consultants and developers from the SAP ABAP environment with an interest in AI and modern application scenarios. Development skills in ABAP are helpful but not a prerequisite. There will also be practical exercises that do not require any development.
A hands-on workshop rather than pure theory
The workshop thrives on group work, discussions, and practical exercises. We want to work out together with you how AI can be used meaningfully in everyday business life. Especially in interaction with existing SAP ABAP systems and real user scenarios.
By the end of the workshop you will know:
- how modern AI concepts work
- how to identify AI potential together with users
- how to quickly develop initial AI prototypes
- and how to develop meaningful AI scenarios before you even have to decide on a specific AI platform
Prerequisites & required software
An interest in AI and the technical concepts behind it is enough as a starting point.
Helpful, but not strictly necessary, is free access to:
- Microsoft Copilot
- Google Gemini
- OpenAI ChatGPT
During the workshop, we will install additional free software on the participants' laptops. Installation rights on your own device are therefore required. For optional SAP ABAP prototypes, your own SAP ABAP systems with extended administration rights can be used.
